Game Rules
Number of players:
A team may have a maximum of four field players and a designated goal-keeper. A team can start with a minimum of 3 players and a goalie but will forfeit if it then loses a player to penalty or injury.
Ball
Kid Soccer Academy would provide the ball
Game time
Games will vary on start time, but will be on the same day from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. A team can start with a minimum of 3 players and a keeper. Balls must be off the field immediately after the Referee calls for them.
Kickoff
The kickoff must have to go forward. Players may not cross the mid-field stripe until the ball is kicked. In indoor soccer every free kick is a direct kick. A goal may be scored directly from a free kick.
Fouls
Tripping, striking, kicking, holding, pushing, pulling, charging or jumping at, handling the ball, sliding and dangerous play are all fouls. High kicks, bicycle and scissor kicks, & playing the ball while sitting or lying on the ground are all examples of dangerous play. All fouls will be restarted by a free kick at point of infraction, or top of the goal area if it is a defensive foul in the goal area. A whistle is required for a restart after a foul.
Penalties
If, in the referee's judgment, the foul is serious, a yellow card and a 2 minute penalty may be given (2 minutes out of the game) the time out, will be used for the coach to talk to the player about what he did wrong. In a repetitive misconduct a red card would be awarded and the player would be suspended for the game. The team would be allowed to put another player while the player serves the penalty. Some of the more common infractions that may result in yellow card and 2 minute penalties or red card are delay of game, sliding, intentional kicking, pulling, fighting and misconduct.
The progression of yellow, and red cards for a player is as follows:
1st offense – player is given a verbal warning.
2nd offense - yellow card (2 minutes out of the game), player serves until time penalty expires or opposing team scores, whichever comes first. The team would be allowed to put another player while the player serves the penalty.
3rd offense - red card, player is ejected from the game. The team would be allowed to put another player while the player serves the penalty.
If a player receives 3 repetitive red cards for serious foul play or violent conduct he/she would be suspended from the season, with partial refund.
Sliding
Some sliding may be part of the game, but dangerous slides are not permitted.
A dangerous slide is any intentional movement of leaving one or both feet while going down to the floor.
Out of bounds
When the ball goes outside the field, play is restarted by the opposing team with a free kick. The ball is placed on the line. If a ball is kicked out of play on the end zones, play would be restarted with a corner kick or a free kick from the goal area line depending on the last player who touched the ball. A ball hitting the ceiling or netting while still in the field of play can continue playing.
*For U-6 there will be no outsides wherever there is padding wall.
Penalty kicks
A penalty kick would be awarded if the defensive team commits a foul while inside the goal area line. The designated shooter must set the ball on the center point of the opponent’s penalty spot. The defensive and offensive team must be 5 ft behind the ball line. When the Referee blows the whistle, play is restarted. Should game time expire before the taking of the shoot-out, the shoot-out should be allowed and the game ends after the shoot-out. The goalie may not be substituted during the shootout.
Goalkeeper rules
The goalkeeper may possess the ball inside the goal area for a maximum of 10 seconds (hands or feet), and can move anywhere in the goal area in that 10 seconds. If he/she exceeds that time, the ball is placed at the penalty kick point and a free kick awarded to the opposing team.
*For U-10 the goalkeeper may possess the ball inside the goal area for a maximum of 6 seconds (hands or feet), and can move anywhere in the goal area in that 6 seconds. If he/she exceeds that time, the ball is placed at the penalty kick point and a free kick awarded to the opposing team.
**For U-10 the goalkeeper may not play the ball with his/her hands if the ball is intentionally passed back by a teammates foot pass
The goalie can play the ball with his/her hands if the ball is kicked by the opposing team, deflected off one of his/her players, or played back off the head or chest of one of his/her teammates.
The goalie cannot bounce the ball or throw it in the air and catch it again.
The goalie can bring the ball into the box and then pick it up.
If a player from the opposing team intentionally obstructs the goalie from releasing the ball into play, it is verbal warning, in the second time a yellow card (2 minutes penalty) would be awarded.
The goalie can only use his hands to touch the ball, if during play the goalie uses his hands to push, pull or any other misconduct, a penalty kick would be awarded to the opponent team.
If the goalie either intentionally strikes an opponent by throwing the ball violently at, or pushes him/her with the ball while holding it, he shall be verbally warned, given a yellow card with 2 minutes penalty, or red card and ejected from the game.
An intentional handball by the goalie outside the goal box area must result in yellow card no 2 minutes penalty, however if second yellow card is awarded, the goalie is ejected from the game.
If the body of the goalie is outside the goal area, but hands are inside, it is not consider a handball.
Substitutions
Substitutions can be made at any time on an unlimited basis while the ball is stopped or in play with the referee permission.
The ball may not be played by either the departing or entering player while both are on the field at the same time.
Substitution happens at the line closer to the bench area of the teams.
